Camarillo, CA, 2/7/2024 – Camarillo Public Library will join the global community to celebrate World Read Aloud Day on February 7, 2024. The day was established by LitWorld to promote the joy of reading aloud and to advocate for literacy as a fundamental human right. “Words are powerful,” says Mandy Nasr, Library Director, “especially when they are read aloud. And they’re even more powerful when read by an adult who is able to read them for the first time.”

Mara Neuron and Dave Carey coordinate the Adult Literacy/ESL program at the Camarillo Public Library where more than 40 adults meet weekly with tutors to improve their reading, writing and speaking skills. Lessons are built around learner goals and needs. Those goals range from reading to their children to passing an exam for a job promotion to reading health materials. If you know someone who would benefit from the program or would like to volunteer, contact the Adult Literacy/ESL Center at 805-388-5580.
